The incredible Neolithic excavation at the Ness of Brodgar in Orkney will be open to the public for the final time during the summer in 2024.

Archaeologists will return to this sprawling site in June for a extended dig season before the site is covered up for good.

Members of the public welcome to visit between June 26 and August 16. Tours will be available on weekdays at 11am, 1pm, and 3pm.

The dig will usually be open to the public from 9.30am until 4.30pm on weekdays, when archaeologists are working on site. There are also open days planned for July 14th and August 4th, with activities on-site and in the Stenness Community School between 11am and 4pm.

If you are planning a visit:

  • Please remember that the Ness of Brodgar is a working archaeological dig in a field.
  • Be prepared for bumpy, sometimes wet and slippy, ground and areas where it is not safe for visitors to go.
  • During your visit, please keep to indicated routes and stay away from the edge of the digging areas.
